Attractions

Freelance Designer

My experience designing for visitors has led to collaborations with commercial clients who want to tell their story to visitors.

Attractions projects include Visitor Centres, Brand Experiences, Trade Exhibitions, Guided Tours, Family Entertainment Centres, Themed Retail Spaces, Castles, Heritage Attractions and Safety Centres.

Visitor Centres

Rampion Offshore Wind Visitor Centre

Initially providing concept designs for the pitch. Then working closely with the client and interactive designer to devise the content plan and visitor experience, including all of the themes, exhibits and interactive designs. I worked as the design consultant right through to opening, liaising with contractors and completing the exhibition graphic design and illustration.

The visitor centre doesn’t just talk about offshore wind energy. There’s a particular focus on inspiring visitors to tackle global climate change.

Brand Experiences

Wensleydale Creamery

I first worked with the Wensleydale Creamery in 2014, designing and installing a family-friendly interactive gallery on the process of Wensleydale cheese-making.

Since then I have helped the Creamery to improve their visitor offer, extending the display galleries, and improving the demo room and retail area.

Improving the family offer with a brand experience has increased overall revenues. More visitors are attracted to the site. Ticket prices reflect the quality of experience on offer. Visitors enjoy more time on site, leading to sales in the cafe and gift shop.

Commercial Exhibitions

Farnborough Air Show

I was approached by a design studio in 2016 to help with their pitch to GKN Aerospace. The tight deadline was 3 days to deliver two design approaches for a pavilion at the Farnborough Air Show.

They won the pitch and have been collaborating with GKN ever since.

“Just a quick note to say the work you’ve produced was excellent – really impressive. The pitch looks great, very clear and some exciting visuals. The board were very impressed with your designs and ideas.”

Guided Tours

Royal Liver Building 360, Liverpool

Concept designed interpretive displays to complement a guided tour and immersive 3D mapped projected show, within the iconic Royal Liver Building.

“If you only have time for one thing on your visit to Liverpool – then make sure you book this amazing tour. This attraction has been well thought out from beginning to end, and is excellent value.”

Family Attractions

Xplore, Athens

Concept designs for zones within the Science and Adventure areas of the Xplore family entertainment centre in Athens, the largest themed education centre in Greece.

Castles

Blarney Castle & Alnwick Castle

After designing the external site interpretation scheme for Blarney Castle in 2008, the client came back in 2018 later when a refresh was required.

I provided 3d and graphic design services on the Dragon’s Quest at Alnwick Castle. Visitors tackle a series of challenges to progress along a spooky dragon cave. Completed back in 2006, this was my first experience of designing a mirror maze.

Safety Centres

Safety Central, Cheshire

Designed four immersive learning zones at Cheshire’s new interactive life-skills education centre. Helping visitors stay safe, keep healthy and be happy.

Safety Central, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s £4.5m life skills centre near Warrington, uses special effects and interactive technology to educate visitors about staying safe at home, on the road and in the community.

Heritage Attractions

Worked with Big Heritage to design and deliver an exhibition about life in Chester from Roman times up to the present day.
